Daniel Hertz M1 Reference System
Bi-amplified M1 with Maria 800
“The Daniel Hertz M1 system is in a class of its own.” – Mark Levinson
The capabilities of the Daniel Hertz M1 are astounding, even to the most experienced audio experts. The bi-amplified M1 represents the pinnacle of music reproduction, offering unparalleled accuracy regardless of cost or size.
The M1 performs exceptionally well in a typical living room measuring 4.5m x 5.5m. Despite its larger size, it delivers an intimate listening experience that transcends awareness of audio equipment. It comes remarkably close to replicating the live performance experience, akin to comparing an F1 car to a family sedan.
Electrical energy can only manifest as acoustic output or heat. The M1’s high efficiency of 100dB/1W/8 ohms/1m translates more amplifier energy into sound, revealing deeper layers of the recording. With the Maria 800, the M1 exhibits no audible compression or distortion even at up to 128dB SPL, ensuring effortless sound reproduction at any volume level.
The M1 features an 18” woofer with a resonant frequency of 20Hz, delivering flat response down to 20Hz at full power. Its smooth frequency response from 20Hz to 20kHz ensures the most natural sound across all music genres.
M1 Drivers
The M1 incorporates custom-made, exclusive drivers engineered with professional audio expertise to faithfully reproduce live music venue soundscapes—an unprecedented capability among high-end audio speakers.
The M1’s 18” woofer boasts high efficiency (98dB/1W/1m) and can handle up to 4000W of power, producing over 132dB SPL. Its crossover point is set at 80Hz.
The 12” woofer operates at 100dB efficiency, reproducing frequencies from 80Hz to 2kHz directly driven by the Maria 800 through active crossovers in the Mighty Cat software suite. A passive crossover separates signals from the 12” woofer to the high-performance compression driver tweeter, which handles frequencies from 2kHz to 20kHz.
The M1’s compression driver tweeter achieves 100dB efficiency and can generate over 130dB SPL at 8 ohms/1W/1m.
Vienna Music Room
Live concert sound demands high-efficiency speakers capable of withstanding rigorous audio demands. The M1 is engineered with the power handling and efficiency required for amplifying live musical performances, distinguishing it from conventional residential audio speakers.
The Vienna Music Room in Vienna, Austria, selected the Daniel Hertz M1 system as both the owner’s personal listening system and the live sound system for renowned musicians like Al DiMeola and Stanley Jordan. Rear channel speakers employ M2 units (comprising the 12” woofer and tweeter of the M1, excluding the 18”). Acoustic treatment, designed by Mark Levinson in collaboration with architects, ensures consistent tonal balance throughout the room.
