Overview
The GyroDec turntable was first introduced in the early 1980s and has influenced turntable design ever since.
This particular unit was purchased new in the mid 1990s, and has had one owner only. It comes fitted with an SME V tonearm, a used Koetsu Red Signature cartridge and upgraded with the Gyropower QC outboard power supply.
Utilising a hanging pendulum-style sub-chassis with an isolated drive motor, three suspension towers hold the springs in place and provide height adjustment for the sub chassis. The weighted pendulum style sub chassis hangs on the three suspension springs, providing a rigid dense platform to mount the main bearing, platter and tonearm assembly, while also acting as a ‘resonance / vibration sink’ drawing away unwanted vibrations from the sensitive elements of the turntable.
The main bearing has the point of rotation at the top of the assembly, not at the bottom. This orientation fully lubricates the inside of the entire bearing while the platter is turning.
GyroPower QC offers speed-switching between 331/s and 45 rpm. Separate regulated power supplies and crystal oscillators for 33 and 45 ensure speed integrity and pitch stability. Filtered power to the Papst motor helps eliminate 'wind noise' from the vanes.
