MBL 5011 Preamplifier - Consignment

Looking in every way like an MBL component, with highly glossed and reflective front and top plates, MBL's 5011 preamplifier is built and designed for a refined audio palate.

There are other preamps on the market that will offer higher resolution, a more forward midrange, or a harder low end thump, but the 5011 seems to swirl a sweet colour to the music, while never becoming too much or too obvious. It's a rich sound that doesn't ignore treble, rather settles it in a way that is perfect for violins or brush drum strokes. The immediacy of the dynamics breathes life into classical recordings, while heavier styles with electronic instruments are presented true, though never harsh, with every instrument given clear space and definition in the soundstage. Live recordings really come alive, the natural resonances and perceived pressure in the space is palpable.

5011 offers a balanced input along with CD level inputs, and a home theatre bypass for easy integration.

For those with more complicated signal chains, multiple sets of both balanced and single ended outputs are offered in 2 groups, each with their own adjustable attenuation. This makes, for example, bi-amp level matching possible and convenient, among other possibilities. The first output group includes 2 sets of balanced outputs, along with RCA, so subwoofer connection is a breeze.
