Overview
"Wow, so heavy!" Denon certainly built the DCD-1650AR aware of the popular thoughts around hifi component weights reflecting quality. It can, in part, be explained by the dual internal power supplies - the digital and audio transformers are mounted independently to suppress signal degradation through interference.
Based on Denon's own ALPHA processor, a unique waveform reproduction technology. In Denon's own words : "The circuit reproduces 16-bit data with 20-bit quality by interpolating digital CD data to approximate the analog waveform that existed in the natural world."
The disc mechanism is a hybrid configuration. The disc tray is coated with a protein-containing paint, which reduces unnecessary vibration. A lightweight and highly rigid aluminum die-cast shaft receiver further reduces vibration.
While the analogue output is limited to single-ended RCA (it does offer both fixed and variable output), the unit really shines as a digital transport, with the digital coaxial output achieving an unexpected resolution and depth.
