Burmester Reference Line - 257 Turntable

With external Reference line PSU

Inspired by iconic milestones and driven by a visionary spirit, Burmester combines over four decades of audiophile expertise with masterful craftsmanship. This claim results in uncompromising perfection - a constant striving for new standards and pushing the boundaries of what is possible.A prime example of this commitment is the new Reference Line. Its sound is moving - with newly defined sophistication in depth, clarity and spatial presence.

The 257 stands for absolute precision and sonic perfection. Ultra-sensitive speed detection and a magnetic-bearing platter reduce mechanical interference to a minimum - for music reproduction of unparalleled purity. Optionally available with an integrated phono module, the 257 Turntable can be flexibly adapted to individual requirements.

The 257 transcends mass-oriented turntable setups by combining superior mechanical engineering with precise digital control to deliver a superior vinyl listening experience.

Indispensable Design Principles
• Compact shape to fit into New Reference Line systems (and the listening space):
A height-adjustable turntable coupled with the tonearm as a single unit
• Optical Speed Control (OSC): An encoder with a pitch of 1600 uses an optical sensor to
detect changes in the speed of rotation in less than a millisecond
• Innovative Motor Suspension (IMS): The counter-rotating suspension motor using
18 O-rings compensates for speed changes, ensuring stable rotation
• Finetuning: Base speed can be increased or decreased using two push buttons

Drive That Makes a Difference
• Hybrid motor control: A high-resolution 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) generates a motor reference voltage that is fed into the purely analog motor control unit
• Automatic compensation for friction and temperature changes in the disk bearings and
belts keeps the speed in the perfect range at all times
• Speed-controlled rotation is performed by two belt drives with two high-torque 12V DC
motors moving two flywheels reducing wow and flutter to an absolute minimum

Low Friction Bearings
Magnetic bearing technology at its best: Inverted, ground and polished ceramic bearing axle with a sintered bronze liner provides the smoothest operation possible.

A Platter to Serve the Best
The balanced 50mm platter in sandwich construction made of technical plastic and stainless steel holds the most legendary records dearly. It provides a solid yet elegant base for all vinyls.

Speed and pitch
For the most reliable vinyl experience, an advanced, ultraprecise speed detection and
correction unit is employed.

Quietly simple
The less, the better - just two motors and magnetic bearings provide quieter, more precise operation.

New on the inside
The 257 uses a new supply chain, resulting in more reliable deliveries and even higher component quality

New on the outside
The 257 is the first of its kind to feature the New Reference Line design concept. Compact, minimal and simplistic, it hides a complex interior within an elegant exterior.

Two-way modular
An optional internal phono module provides a connection to line amplifiers. Alternatively, either a similar module can be used in Burmester pre- and integrated amplifiers, or a separate phono preamplifier.
