Overview
The Audio Research LS-5 MkII is a fully balanced vacuum tube line-stage preamplifier pairing four matched 6922 dual-triode valves with a solid state power supply.
The low output impedance and strong drive maintain signal integrity when using long length balanced interconnects.
The high-voltage, fully regulated power supply has been well isolated and extensively grounded.
LS-5's attenuation is controlled via an analogue volume circuit of precision relay switches.
Specification
Distortion: Less than 0.005% at 2V RMS output (typically less than 0.003% in the midband).
Gain (Balanced Differential): Main output: 30dB/12dB switchable. Tape output: 0dB.
Input impedance: 200kΩ balanced.
Inputs (6): Tuner, video, phono, CD, aux, tape (XLR connectors).
Output impedance: 400Ω balanced main (2), 20kΩ minimum load and 2000pF maximum capacitance.
Outputs (3): 2 main, 1 tape (XLR connectors).
Maximum input: 20V maximum.
Rated outputs: 2V RMS, 1Hz to 100kHz into a 100kΩ balanced load (maximum balanced output capability is 50V RMS at less than 0.5% THD at 1kHz).
Controls: Gain (quad detented), input selector. Toggle switches: Power/off, +30/+12dB gain, monitor/source, mute/operate.
Power supplies: Electronically regulated low and high voltage supplies. Automatic 45-second warm-up/brown-out mute. Toroidal power transformer. Line regulation better than 0.01%.
Noise: 12µV RMS residual IHF-weighted balanced noise output with gain control at minimum, 12dB gain selected (104dB below 2V RMS output).
Tube complement: 10 × 6922/E88CC dual triodes (vacuum tube audio circuit, solid-state power supply).
Power requirements: 100–135VAC 60Hz (200–270VAC 50/60Hz), 100W maximum.
