Overview

SACD and even redbook CD playback, can be an expensive source these days, many hifi brands have stopped producing audio disc players, with or without internal DACs. While the ultra-high end still caters to physical disc media, the options in more accessible price points are few and far between. This gap has seen the rise of bluray players with a focus on 2-channel audio playback, exemplified in this offering from Pioneer.

A three-block internal layout with double-layered chassis isolates the power supply, drive and digital processing, and analogue audio output. The already 1.6mm thick chassis base is reinforced by another 3mm thick steel plate. The double-layered chassis construction reduces the disc-reading vibration, and helps isolate the sensitive analogue output stage.

Typical digital output forms (optical and coaxial) are available for those with a dedicated DAC, and make the unit a high performing CD and SACD transport.

For those with an interest in video, the HDMI output is 4k capable and the reader is capable of Ultra-HD Bluray playback, 3D Bluray in addition to standard DVD formats.
