Overview

Occasionally you have an experience that makes you acutely aware of the exponential growth of technology. I had this recently when testing out Naim's Uniti Nova smart integrated amp. The term "smart amp" has come to describe an integrated amplifier that has on-board streaming capabilities, but the Nova takes the "smarts" one step further with support for Google Assistant and Apple's Siri. You can now quite literally talk out loud to control your high end audio system.

If you aren't a fan of voice assistants, the Focal&Naim app is feature-packed and the included remote control has impressive functionality. The chassis includes an elegant backlit volume dial and 5" full colour display with a proximity sensor, with a few button controls including the all-important "play/pause".

Digital inputs include Naim's proprietary DIN, both RCA and BNC coaxial, and HDMI Arc. 

Outputs include DIN, RCA, and a 3.5mm jack for connecting headphones. The onboard AB class amplifier provides a robust 80W into 8ohms to drive a pair of loudspeakers, making the Nova a true "one box solution" for high end audio. While the focus is obviously on-board streaming, the Nova will happily integrate analogue sources or external digital sources, and even a modern TV.

Most importantly - the amp sounds great! While better paired with an efficient loudspeaker to get the most of the available power output, the sound signature is quick and agile without being too light. It includes a decent wack of bottom end, making it capable of producing modern full-range signals with ease.
