Overview

When this unit arrived in the store for potential consignment, it spent a couple of hours on our front desk waiting for testing. Staff and customers who walked by stopped to comment on the build quality and design, it really exudes a premium (high end!) feeling. In marketing terms you might say "Award winning performance in an impressively compact but stylish chassis." The unit certainly has received it's fair share of awards and industry praise, but it's the compact and modern design aesthetic that might make it a great statement piece in your space without sacrificing sound quality.

Functionally, the Atom is a capable, user friendly streamer and preamp with facilities for both analogue and digital inputs and balanced (XLR) or single ended (RCA) outputs. The Headphone Edition features 1 x jack 6,35 mm, 1 x Pentaconn 4.4 mm (balanced), 1 x XLR 4-pins (symmetrical) output with 1.5W RMS per channel, capable of driving any headphones from 16ohms and up. 

The usual streaming technologies are available including AirPlay 2, Chromecast, UPnP, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth. The unit has access to high res streaming services natively - namely, Tidal and Qobuz, and is also Roon Ready.

Wifi is possible to keep a clean look and minimise your cable count, but the 10/100Mbps ethernet should be utilised to enjoy seamless high-res playback.

The 5" full colour LCD display includes a proximity sensor that comes alive with album artwork when you approach the device. The included remote control is tidy and offers great functionality, but we expect any volume changes to be made by turning the responsive and tastefully backlit dial that graces the chassis' top.
