The D400 stereo power amplifier is a testament to over 20 years of engineering excellence, combining the musicality and soundstaging of Audio Research's renowned hybrid amplifiers in a fully solid-state design. This amplifier delivers 400 watts per channel into a four-ohm load, offering robust power and freedom from maintenance. With 600 joules of energy storage in a dual-mono configuration, the D400 can handle even the most demanding music dynamics, delivering up to 3600 watts of instantaneous power per channel. Utilizing 40 Multiple Emitter Transistors in a direct-coupled output stage, the D400 combines the musicality of MOSFETs with the ruggedness of bipolar transistors, ensuring exceptional performance without the typical drawbacks of these technologies.
Designed for energy efficiency, the D400 consumes only 220 watts at idle, making it suitable for continuous operation without excessive heat generation. It features two separate power transformers for optimal isolation and headroom, along with special internal damping techniques to ensure quiet operation and reduced vibration. The amplifier's meticulous construction includes hand-soldered connections for superior signal transfer and massive heat sinking for moderate operating temperatures, allowing trouble-free installation in various environments.
