Overview

C-5000 Preamplifier

The C-5000 employs fully balanced and discrete circuitry throughout the signal path, particularly notable in its Tone Defeat feature. A patented floating design is utilized in critical components like the phono EQ, input amp, and line amp stages to eliminate ground noise interference. The pre-amplifier PCB is meticulously designed with a folding-book layout, ensuring precise signal matching and layout symmetry between left and right channels. The inclusion of independent dual toroidal transformers for left and right channels enhances separation, preserving the integrity of the original sound stage. Efforts to minimize magnetic leakage and external interference are evident, such as enclosing the power transformer in a copper-plated case to suppress magnetic flux and vibration. This meticulous design is accentuated by a chassis copper-plating to mitigate voltage influence on the circuitry. The power supply system employs thick screw-type wires to reduce impedance, and maximise the transmission of musical information. The design of the C-5000 extends beyond its audio performance, with attention given to aesthetics and user experience. Unique knobs and lever switches reflect both innovation and craftsmanship, offering precision and durability. The chassis construction emphasizes master craftsmanship, while heavy-duty brass feet provide stability and versatility, catering to different surfaces with optional scratch guards.

M-5000 Power Amplifier

Yamaha's M-5000 features a meticulously designed end-to-end balanced signal chain. The symmetrical layout of the M-5000 isolates left and right channels both physically and electrically, minimizing energy loss and achieving lower impedance. Unlike conventional designs, its power supply is directly connected to each positive and negative side of the output stage, floating the entire power amp circuit to eliminate voltage fluctuations and ground noise. The design facilitates the use of MOSFET power amplifiers, enhancing drivability for low impedance speakers. Rigidity to reduce vibration interference is achieved through a mechanical ground concept that fixes critical components directly to the chassis. A massive toroidal transformer with a 3 mm thick pure brass base suppresses vibrations, while drawn-out copper wiring minimizes energy loss and impedance. Thick wires and screw-type connections further minimize energy loss, and brass terminals on block capacitors allow strong, low impedance connections. The M-5000's construction features heavy-duty brass feet and large, high-precision Asahi glass meters. Oversized screw-type speaker terminals, crafted from pure brass, ensure ease of use and secure connections, while a 3 mm thick brass terminal base plate reduces distortion and enhances rigidity.
