Overview
The Digital Vanguard integrates a formidable 200-watt-per-channel amplifier and a Class A preamplifier within a chassis inspired by Krell's cutting-edge designs, including the Foundation preamp/processor, Connect stream player, Illusion preamp, and iBias amplifiers. Providing extensive digital support, it features USB, HDMI, coaxial, and optical inputs, alongside Ethernet audio and Bluetooth streaming capabilities.
Powering the Vanguard's amplifier is a robust power supply boasting a 750 VA toroidal transformer and 80,000 microfarads of storage capacitance, delivering 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 400 watts into 4 ohms. Despite this formidable power, two thermostatically controlled fans maintain a surprisingly compact chassis.
The preamplifier section inherits balanced, fully discrete Class A circuitry from Krell's Illusion preamplifiers, utilizing Current Mode technology to ensure exceptional signal bandwidth, effortlessly handling high-resolution PCM and DSD audio sources without compromising high-frequency response and detail.
Combining Krell's musical technologies within an elegant, living-room-friendly chassis, the Vanguard delivers lifelike dynamics with any speaker. Its front-panel menu system offers configuration features like input naming and input trim, while Theater Throughput mode enables seamless integration into surround-sound systems without compromising two-channel sound quality. Analog inputs include three stereo RCA and one stereo balanced XLR, with WBT speaker cable terminals ensuring a secure, electrically optimal connection.
Tailored for custom installations, the Vanguard features 3.5mm jacks for IR input and 12-volt trigger input and output, along with optional rack-mount ears. Furthermore, it seamlessly integrates with home automation systems through its Ethernet connection or the Krell web server.
A standout feature of the Digital Vanguard is its comprehensive digital module, encompassing USB and HDMI inputs and output, coaxial and optical digital inputs, Ethernet music streaming controlled via dedicated iOS and Android apps, and Bluetooth wireless connectivity for convenient streaming from various devices.
