Overview

The SL-1210GR Grand Class Turntable features a coreless direct-drive motor for stable rotation, a rigid two-layer turntable platter, a high-sensitivity tonearm, and a two-layer cabinet construction for superior vibration damping and long-term reliability.

Launched in 2016, the SL-1200G combined Technics' traditional analogue and advanced digital technologies, redefining the reference for direct-drive turntables. The SL-1210GR inherits this legacy with a coreless direct-drive motor and precise motor control technology, eliminating cogging. It also features a low-vibration, high-rigidity platter and a high-sensitivity tonearm, offering performance that surpasses the usual standards of its class.

The coreless direct-drive motor, developed by Technics in 2016, eliminates cogging by using a single-rotor, surface-facing design. This technology ensures stable rotation and long-term reliability. The motor control technology, derived from Blu-ray disc development, uses sine waves stored in ROM for smoother and more stable rotation. The SL-1210GR achieves a starting torque of 2.2 kg x cm with a startup time of 0.7 seconds at 33 1/3 rpm.

The turntable platter uses a two-layer construction with deadening rubber applied to the entire rear surface of the aluminum die-cast, eliminating unnecessary resonance and producing clear sound. The platter is heavier than previous models, with added strengthening ribs for improved rigidity and damping characteristics that are more than twice those of the SL-1200MK5.

The tonearm features a static-balance universal S-shaped design, using an aluminum pipe for lightweight rigidity. The gimbal suspension construction and high-precision bearings ensure high initial-motion sensitivity of 5 mg or less. The tonearm allows for precise tracking of record grooves, and the included auxiliary weight enables compatibility with a variety of cartridges.

The SL-1210GR uses gold-plated phono terminals for detachable cables, allowing for a wide variety of cable choices. The metal shielding construction inside the case reduces external noise. The two-layer body construction, combining BMC and aluminum die-cast chassis, ensures high rigidity and vibration damping. Special silicon rubber insulators absorb horizontal vibration, and the vertical adjustment mechanism prevents unwanted vibration, ensuring stable record playing.
